Take 5 (or 6 or 7)

Mercury turned retrograde this morning. O joy.

In advance of the three-week slowdown, my past few days have been filled with the usual delays... traffic snarls on slick, snow-covered roads, miscommunication and techno glitches of all kinds. In an hour, a couple of guys are coming over to move the washer and dryer so the plumber can get into the crawlspace under the house to blow torch my frozen water pipes. And of course I have 10 million things to do while they tear up the house. I think I'll go for a walk.

The way these things always happen, the timing is perfect. It's the end of the year, time to focus on the activities, or non-activities, appropriate to Mercury's retrograde period. Things like retreat, meditation, completing unfinished projects and other business, home repairs, car and computer maintenance.

There's a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse coming up during the day on December 31. In Cancer/Capricorn, issues will be highlighted around your home, family and business. This is also likely to be a highly emotional time. At the end of the calendar year and beginning of a new one, tend to practical, third-dimensional matters, practice nurturing self-care, and notice what's happening on deep innner levels.

The tradition of creating New Year's resolutions is particularly powerful this year with the eclipse energies. Use this time to really feel into your heart. Find out what you need spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically to live a healthier, happier life in alignment with your soul. Make your intent clear and create ritual around that.

The matching bookend is a New Moon Solar Eclipse on January 14, 2010, also in Capricorn. Mercury will station the next day and begin traveling in "forward" motion again. This will be the time for us Earthlings to move forward in a big way, especially in business and day-to-day practical matters. Until then, relax, take your time and prepare for a stellar new year!

Honoring Yuletide

As the Sun crosses the Galactic Equator each December, darkness waxes to deepest night. In the northern hemisphere, we await the dawn on Solstice morn, welcoming the return of Light.

Winter Solstice on December 21 is the shortest day of the year and the longest night in the northern hemisphere. It’s the pagan sabbat called Yule, also known as Yuletide. Christmas is the Christian version. Yule marks the time when the days begin to grow longer and the nights shorter. In the southern hemisphere, Solstice marks the height of summer, a time of culmination and abundance.

Holiday hustle, bustle, parties and celebrations tend to eclipse the inner nature of this sacred time. Even as we gather to celebrate with community the beginning of a new year and the return of light to Earth, we’re also called to explore the inner realms of consciousness, the mystery of this creation, as we dream a new future into being.

We can attune to the natural flow of creation with Solstice practices that support the deep inner work that’s appropriate at this time of year:

- Honor the Bear Lodge of winter. Welcome the darkness. Receive incoming cosmic energy through this galactic portal with retreat and meditation, yoga and shamanic journeywork.
- Review the solar year, Solstice to Solstice. Honor your experiences and accomplishments.
- Invite vision and create intentions for the coming year.
- Imagine the world we’re co-creating during this transition period, the Turning of the Ages.
- Celebrate in community, with family and friends. Ritualize individual and collective intent. Hold the light for planet Earth and all beings through prayer and ceremony.

Yule is a solar festival, celebrated traditionally with fire and the Yule log, candles, holly, mistletoe, bayberry, reindeer, pine trees with lights and ornaments, gifts and festive foods. Bayberry, cedar, pine and rosemary are the scents and spices of Yule. Traditional candle colors are gold, green, red and white.

The moment of exact alignment is 12:47 PM Eastern (5:47 PM GMT) on December 21, as the Sun moves into Capricorn. Pause and attune to the forces of creation during this gateway, and relish the blessings of the season!

Galactic Alignment

The Sun's crossing of the Galactic Equator each December is a central focus of the book, Cosmic Time. There's also a feature article on this topic in the current issue of my newsletter:

Solstice Prayer

My prayer is for beings around the world to align with these energies and ritualize our intent, both individually and in community, as we co-create a new paradigm on Earth. The Solstices and Equinoxes, as well as New and Full Moons, are particularly powerful times to focus celestial and Earth energies through the act of ceremony.

Recently I was invited to share how we can attune to these natural rhythms in a teleclass hosted by animal intuitive Lynn McKenzie. In honor of the Solstice, I've posted a recording of this special 75-minute teleclass and Solstice ritual: Tapping into the Power of Lunar and Solar Cycles. You can listen here:

This Is It

Each December I publish a preview of the upcoming planetary transits and alignments for the new year.

As I put together my astrological forecast for 2010, I was blown away - literally.

I've been studying and writing about the planetary energies of the 2012 transition for more than a decade. You can look back through the archives of the Cosmic Time ezine and Alignments newsletter to see where we've been. In my book, Cosmic Time, we take a look at the big-picture, planetary and cosmic context of the times we live in, especially the years 1987 through 2012 and beyond.

As I wrote in the book, the planetary energies of 2010 are the hot spot of this transition. In the past few months, as I studied and meditated upon the planetary motions and alignments coming up in the new year, layers and layers of meaning began to unfold.

In short, 2010 will be a defining time in humanity's evolution. Galactic energies will force us to change. We will reach a crossroads in 2010, and the choices we make will set the stage for eons to come. I do believe this is the central message of the sacred prophecies and calendars of the Maya, Aztec, Hopi, Lakota, Iroqois, Egyptians, Hindus and other spiritual cultures around the world.

It took many weeks to pull the information together. During the time that I actually wrote the piece, a megastorm blasted through much of the United States. As I attempted to sleep after one of several days of writing, fierce winds rocked my tiny casita perched on a mesa in the open desert. Torrents of rain pelted the parched Earth for nearly 24 hours. It was a long night of communion with the nature spirits, the elements of water and air. Sleep didn't happen, but something alchemical did. I realized this violent storm was an expression of the kinds of energies I was writing about in the preview.

Not a comfortable epiphany.

Many people in this country will be digging out for days as a result of the storm. I read this morning that surfers in Hawaii were riding 30-foot waves... a living metaphor I used in the piece about the opportunity we have in 2010 to get on top of the potent energies and create something positive.

So that's the gist of it. Quite simply, 2010 will be the most volatile year we've experienced yet on the way to 2012. During these days and nights leading up to the Solstice, I invite you to familiarize yourself with the energies and this profound opportunity. Get clear with your intent. Don't wait until January. The new year actually begins with the Sagittarius New Moon on December 16, so now's the time. Surf's up!

The Harvest

When we live in a natural way, life begins to slow down at this time of year. We pause and give thanks as the seasons change and nights grow longer.

What is the essence of all our experiences, this turn of the wheel, as we prepare for winter and the Solstice point in December? This is the harvest.

For me, the journey of 2009 brought the birth of a new book, adventure, romance and a much-needed vacation at the beach. I got to connect with many new faces and places, familiar favorites and longtime friends. I'll celebrate Thanksgiving this week with my family in the Midwest, and count these blessings.

The laughter of children and sun on my face, rain on the roof and sand on my feet, a nurturing home, loving companionship, deepening wisdom, radiant health, an abundant garden and silent, starry nights.

What a privilege it is to live on this precious planet. As I light the candles this Thanksgiving, my heart is filled with love and gratitude for the rich abundance of life. I savor the moments and cherish each encounter.

Thank you for being part of my experience. Blessings to you and yours.

Namaste.

Opening to Love

Where will we go from here?

Changes prophesied since ancient times are playing out on Earth now, through the 2012 transition. How different does your life look today than it did a year ago, two years ago, 10 years ago? This portal of transformation is related to observable astronomical alignments. These alignments allow for cosmic energies to reach us from beyond time and space, bathing the Earth in spiritual light to prepare us for our next evolution.

As humans, most of us find it difficult to embrace change. We've been taught to think that the world around is all there is. We identify strongly with the physical dimension. If we elevate our consciousness, we can perceive that the material world is an illusion, impermanent, constantly in flux.

That's exactly what we're beginning to experience as truth. On a daily basis we witness changes in government, changes in education, changes in business, industry, finances, medicine and the arts. Climate change. Earth changes. And the rate of change is accelerating.

The effects of ramped-up cosmic forces in our lives are foretold in the prophecies of many spiritual traditions. The sacred calendar of the Maya of Central America gives the timing for all this to unfold. That time is now.

Things aren't the way they used to be, and they never will be again. As uncomfortable as it may be for many of us, this much change, happening so quickly, is perfectly natural. Destruction of the world as we've known it is centered in love, the creational force of the universe. A divine intelligence guides this process. We can trust in that.

The year 2012 gets a lot of attention when people talk about the end times and the Mayan calendar. Whether the calendar ends in 2011 (as researcher Carl Johan Calleman claims) or 2012 (as many others believe), now is the time to be paying attention, to get in tune with these destructive/creative forces. In my book, Cosmic Time, we highlight many ways to align with the energies.

As the reconfiguration of our world continues, 2010 will be a defining time in the history of humanity. Energetically, 2010 begins with the New Moon in Sagittarius next month. The energies reach a peak next summer, near the June Solstice.
In 2010, humanity arrives at a crossroads. Will we continue to follow the path of materialism? Or will we choose the path of the heart? Each of us will decide. Individually and in groups, we will initiate a sequence for the times to come, not only through our intent, but with our actions.

Words and actions must now be aligned. It isn't enough anymore to talk about love. We need to be love, to be loving. Every moment of every day. A breathtaking series of planetary/galactic alignments will facilitate our opening to love. This is a chance of a lifetime, many lifetimes, and the effects will radiate throughout the cosmos.

Beyond the Veil

As this Samhain passage comes to a close, I'm blown away again by the ways of Spirit.

All day on Halloween, I had this persistent urge to go to the new Michael Jackson film. I wasn't in the mood for costume parties this year. I wanted to see that movie. My clever little mind kept thinking how appropriate it would be to find out what he had to say from the grave, so to speak, on Halloween.

I hadn't been into Michael Jackson in years but was, of course, affected by the death of this icon, this legend. He died the night before my 47th birthday.

I asked a friend if she wanted to go to the movies and she immediately suggested Michael Jackson's This Is It. So it would be.

I'm still integrating all that happened as a result of that journey. In this film, composed of footage from rehearsals for the never-to-be "This Is It" comeback tour, Michael indeed speaks from beyond the grave. It's haunting, and enlightening, and entertaining. There were things that spoke to me personally, and professionally. It was like visiting with my brother. I left the theater inspired.

Michael Jackson left a profound legacy. Whether you liked his style and his music, or not. No matter what you thought of his personal life. Michael Jackson taught a generation to dance. The messages in this film transcend his death to remind us to care for the Earth, to love fully, to make a difference in the world.

After all, this is a man who co-created "We Are the World," assembling some of the greatest talent on Earth, to transmit a message of oneness back in the '80s.

Michael quite clearly references 2012 in the film. In speaking of the need to change our ways and heal the Earth, he says we've got four years to do it. He's right. It's time. This is it.

Calling All Souls

Last night an owl called out, several times, near my window. He was hidden, somewhere on the mesa bathed in bluish, milky moonlight. His voice was clear and persistent. I relished the invitation to explore the mystery in this sacred season.

Every year I count the days to Halloween, which is also the cross-quarter sabbat called Samhain. What a powerful time it is, our connection with the netherworlds strengthened, our night vision more acute, extrasensory perceptions finely tuned. The seasons are turning, toward winter in the northern hemisphere, toward summer in the south. Fall is a time of harvest and gratitude. We prepare for winter and go within as the nights grow longer. The Samhain fire releases pain, suffering and outdated beliefs, preparation for our journey into higher realms of consciousness.

With the Sun in Scorpio, Samhain (pronounced 'sow-in' or 'sow-een') skims the boundaries between the living and the dead. This is a special time when we honor the Ancestors and loved ones who have crossed into spirit. We're especially attuned to their guidance, love and wisdom through this portal.

This year, the Full Moon energizes the mystic, healing qualities of this shamanic gateway. Full Moons illuminate what's been held in the subconscious. In Taurus/Scorpio, she invites us to see and embrace the shadow.

Samhain begins with Halloween on October 31 and continues through "true" Samhain on November 7 when the Sun reaches 15 degrees Scorpio. All Saint's Day is November 1 and Dia de las Muertas (All Soul's Day) is November 2. The Full Moon rises Sunday night, November 1. The alignments create a bubbling cauldron of possibilities fueled by Scorpio's promise of transcendence. Prepare for the cycle of death and rebirth embedded within this change of seasons.

Light a candle and invite the Ancestors and departed loved ones to your circle of prayer, healing and manifestation. Be clear with your intent and notice messages from beyond the veil. Mercury's conjunction with the Sun in Scorpio facilitates otherworldly communication. Also commune with the Earth herself, the animal and plant kingdoms. Open to receive their medicine and the visceral sensations of this creation.

Owl carries us into the Void, quantum field of no-time, no-space... the fertile ground where shamans and alchemists dance.

Tune in, ritualize and create during this sacred passage.

2012 Is Now

Thank you, John Cusack.

You gave us "Serendipity," "Must Love Dogs" and so many other Hollywood treasures. Now the movie, "2012." Because of you, the world is waking up to the idea that something important, something galactic, is happening on planet Earth.

Never mind that Sony Pictures turned this into an over-the-top Hollywood apocalyptic extravaganza. At least it brings to light the single most important topic of our times... the Earth's transition to the next world age.

So now people are talking about it. Finally.

This has been a lifetime subject for me. As I wrote in my book, Cosmic Time, I've had dreams and visions since I was a child connected with the end times prophecies. As an adult, I learned that all spiritual traditions on Earth point to these times - the years leading up to and after 2012 - as a shift point created by the convergence of vast cycles of time that are ending, and beginning, right now.

This isn't Hollywood-disaster-doom-and-gloom prophecy. We have a choice as we make our way through this transition. We can focus on negativity and see the changes in our world as essentially bad. Or we can see this as a supreme opportunity to do things differently on planet Earth. Not that this will be easy. Whole paradigms are changing, very quickly, and it's going to be uncomfortable. But there are things we can do to manage ourselves in the face of accelerating change that will help us make our way gracefully.

Of course the world isn't going to end in 2012. I don't even believe the date December 21, 2012, is all that significant. The galactic alignment that some scholars say will happen on that day is actually ongoing over a period of decades. It's already happening. 2012 is now.

As my dear Gerardo puts it, you wouldn't expect to wake up on the Autumn Equinox and suddenly the season has changed, in one day, from summer to fall. The transition is gradual. Leaves change color and fall before, and after, September 22. The Sun warms your skin one day, and a brisk wind chills your bones the next. The changes happen over a period of weeks, even months. The same is true of this transition to the next world age. It's happening over a period of time. That time is now.

How does all this relate to our everyday reality? Notice how the economy is shifting, how spiritual consciousness is awakening, how the old, worn-out structures of our past no longer serve the truth of who we're becoming as a species. Maybe it seems like your life is falling apart. Your world is crumbling, over and over. Are you going to wake up on December 22, 2012, and notice everything has changed? Probably not. But if you look at your life and your world that day - or any day in these times - and compare it to how things were five, 10, 20 years ago or more, you're going to notice that things are not at all as they used to be. And that is intended.

We're in the midst of a wondrous transformation of our world, our lives, our consciousness, an awakening and new beginning prophesied since ancient times. Explore the potentials and possibilities of the 2012 transition. Figure it out for yourself. There are lots of web sites, including mine, that deal with this subject in depth. It's so intriguing to me, I wrote a book about it.

I like the suggestion at the end of the movie trailer - "Find out the truth. Search 2012." Go for it!

Harvest Moon

The Full Moon rises Saturday night in sweet celestial splendor. Below, ripened fields on Earth are bathed in her luminous glow. This is the harvest.

Full Moons are points of culmination, magical moments of manifestation and creation. Especially this one. In Aries/Libra, the Moon/Sun opposition aligns in a portal of initiation, a milestone in our ascension. The alignment will be exact Saturday night (11:10 PM Pacific October 3, 2:10 AM Eastern October 4).

In the Northern Hemisphere, the Harvest Moon is the Full Moon closest to the Fall Equinox. Below the equator, the seeds of spring are ripening in a time of new beginnings.

In initiating, cardinal signs, the waxing Moon signals a completion, the harvest of all we've cultivated in recent weeks and months. Our hearts are filled with gratitude for the abundant blessings in our lives. In many places, the streets are filled with the sights, smells and sounds of community harvest festivals.

Spiritually, we are fulfilled. The Moon in Aries illuminates our passions, urging us to pursue our dreams. The Sun in Libra brings balance, beauty and harmony.

Saturn, Mercury and Venus in Virgo celebrate the Earth, our path of service, the alchemy of spirit and matter within this physical dimension. Uranus in Pisces opposes Mercury and Saturn, a dynamic opposition we've seen reflected in recent Earth changes, including powerful earthquakes and tsunamis this past week.

The cosmos asks that we pause to honor this passage as Grandmother Moon waxes to full these autumn nights. Take action to manifest your dreams into reality. Pray for balance and harmony in our world, within the hearts of all, as we make our way through the prophesied changes of the 2012 transition.

Namaste.

Protecting the Moon

At the Full Moon in September, I learned of NASA's mission to bomb the Moon this month. Unbelievable, but true. For details and links, see my September 4, 2009 blog post below.

The story has been reported in Scientific American and other popular media, yet reliable facts and updates about this mission are sketchy. You can research it yourself and draw your own conclusions. At the very least, our prayers and awareness are needed.

Mercury Redux

We've survived another Mercury retrograde. Woo-hoo.

The planet of communications, transportation and things mechanical finally returned to forward motion this morning. What a relief. Now things can get back to normal, whatever that is these days.

Over the years there have been times that I've brazenly scoffed at the idea that the apparent forward or backward motion of the first rock from the Sun could have anything to do with computer crashes, mechanical breakdowns, technical problems and missed appointments.

For some unknown reason, this Mercury Rx period was one of those times. I decided to test my ability not to let this retrograde transit affect me. I should know better.

Here I am today, staying at a retreat center in the desert, reconfiguring my web site, rereading important books, reconnecting with friends and clients from my past, reconsidering major life decisions, and having my car repaired - not once, but three times. Hmm. Maybe there's something to this astrology thing.

As the celestial messenger returns to forward motion today, I have renewed respect for the ancient wisdom revealed through the motion of the stars and planets. I'm reminded how thoroughly joyful it is to receive flashes of astro insight that help us make our way consciously in this fast-changing world. I'm grateful to work with soulful, heart-centered clients around the world who are truly committed to their life path and purpose, to contributing to the transformation of consciousness on Earth and co-creating a better future for our children and grandchildren.

Thank you, Mercury, for the reminder to pause, and reflect.

p.s. The play of morning light in the retreat center garden is featured below. EnJOY.

Equinox Prayer

The Equinox today is a point of balance in the solar year. A pause.

In this moment, when day and night are of equal length, we pray. For balance, peace and harmony in our world. For our families, our communities. For love. For children's laughter. For the courage to dance with the changes of our lives. For the wisdom to see the perfection in all.

Morning star Venus sings us awake this day. Later, the Sun enters Libra. Cooperation and partnership, love and beauty reign.

The seasons change as the Earth and Sun come into alignment. What are we creating in our lives and our world in this moment? Dream big.

Equinox arrives 5:19 p.m. Eastern today. Honor this sacred passage. Celebrate. Initiate. Gift the Earth. Open to the blessings of this creation.

Om Shanti.

What's Essential?

With today's very Virgo New Moon, our thoughts turn to the physical details of life.

The Sun, Moon, Saturn and Virgo are constellated in the sign most associated with the harvest and health. On Tuesday the Sun journeys into Libra and we have the Equinox, point of balance.

As the seasons change and we prepare for the harvest, it's appropriate to tend to our physical bodies. Nourish the body with nutritious foods. A supported cleanse detoxifies the body and strengthens the immune system. Add some discipline and commit to a daily practice of meditation, exercise and perhaps yoga. What habits need to be changed?

At home and work, use this this strong Virgo energy to pare down to what's essential. (It's a lot less than you think.) Simplify, downsize, clear out clutter. Get organized.

Virgo is also about service. How is your path of service changing? Are you aligned with your purpose?

With Mercury in retrograde motion until September 29, we have a little while longer to reconsider our options, revise our intentions and complete unfinished projects.

New Moons are the time for turning the soil and planting. Today's New Moon culminates in the Harvest Moon on October 3. Flow with the natural energies to create powerfully in this time of new beginnings. Notice the blessings streaming in.

Oh My

What's all the buzz about the astrology this week?

In the past few days, I've been called, e-mailed and stopped in the grocery store by people asking about it based on something they read on the Internet or in print.

The planets are aligning in some quirky, volatile ways as the September 18 New Moon and September 22 Equinox approach. The big deal, according to some, is that Uranus and Saturn are reaching exact opposition on Tuesday, followed by a compelling New Moon alignment on Friday and the September Equinox next Tuesday.

The way the stars and planets align tells us a lot about the energies we'll be experiencing. These configurations don't influence life on Earth so much as they give us a heads-up about the possibilities inherent within the energetic patterns. The planets don't do anything to us. Their movements signal times of expanded opportunity to manifest and create in alignment with divine will.

Here's the line-up this week. Uranus and Saturn face off in exact opposition on Tuesday, September 15. Uranus exactly opposes our Sun on September 17, with both planets widely square Pluto. The New Moon alignment on Friday features a conjunction of four planets (Sun, Moon, Saturn and Mercury) in Virgo, all opposed by Uranus. The Virgo planets are inconjunct the ongoing Jupiter-Neptune-Chiron triplicity in Aquarius. That's tense.

The September Equinox happens when the Sun moves into Libra, which falls on September 22/23 depending on your time zone. We celebrate the harvest in the Northern Hemisphere. Below the Equator, spring is in bloom. At this alignment, Mars in Cancer and Saturn-Mercury in Virgo are inconjunct Jupiter, Neptune and Chiron, with the Uranus-Saturn opposition continuing.

The bottom line? Big changes are under way. We already knew that. Life-changing events are happening every day. Uranus and Saturn are the key players right now, with Pluto egging them on. Always the revolutionary, Uranus awakens us to new possibilities and urges us to do things differently. Uranian insights and inegenuity can feel squelched by Saturn, the planet of karma, authority, structure and form. Pluto presses for transformation. With Mercury in retrograde motion until September 29, it may not be time to put all those brilliant ideas into action just yet. Go with the flow. The quincunx (inconjuct) aspect present in most of the current alignments offers a special opportunity for expanded awareness, understanding and healing. The energies lighten up in early October, culminating with the Harvest Full Moon in Aries on October 3.

All of this happens a year after the Full Moon in September 2008 when the markets began their historic tumble. Although the alignments this week are potent, there's no obvious trigger like the Full Moon opposition conjunct Uranus a year ago. New Moons are subtler than Full Moons. Also, this is not the only exact opposition of Uranus and Saturn. Because these outer planets move slowly and take turns retrograding, there are five exact oppositions. The first was November 4, 2008 - election day in the United States. Uranus and Saturn were also exactly opposed on February 5 of this year, and will be again on April 26 and July 26, 2010. Since this configuration is in effect for two years, "big events" may or may not happen right on the date of the exact oppositions. The changes are happening throughout this period and within the cosmic context of the Turning of the Ages, which lasts decades and perhaps hundreds of years. We explore this subject in depth and give the astrological forecast through the 2012 gateway in my book, Cosmic Time.

The fall alignments come on the heels of the super-charged eclipse series this past summer. The tension builds to a crescendo in the summer of 2010. At each lunation, and on the cardinal points (equinoxes and solstices) and cross-quarters (mid-points between the equinoxes and solstices), we have a supreme opportunity to pause, re-center, and embody the consciousness of love. These are moments when we can even more easily tap into the quantum field and create a new reality for our lives and our world.

Yes, the energies this week are a bit tumultuous and shattery. It's a prelude to even more volatile planetary alignments next summer. Physically, you might be feeling agitated and nervous, even lightheaded or dizzy. You might also notice your thoughts are turning into reality faster and faster each day.

The best way to handle this is to stay grounded. Attune to the Earth, the planets and stars. Channel nervous energy into creative projects. Downsize and clear out clutter. Pray. Meditate. Commune in nature. Eat healthy, vibrant foods. Cleanse, nourish and nurture your body. Do yoga. Breathe. Open to the miraculous. Celebrate life.

Ritual, prayer and meditation are always powerful, and the effects are amplified at the times of exact planetary alignments. In the next week, those are:

September 15 - Uranus-Saturn exact opposition - 8:50 AM Eastern
September 17 - Uranus-Sun exact opposition - 5:42 AM Eastern

Protecting the Moon

This is surreal. Just as I'm preparing to meditate for the exact moment of today's Full Moon, an e-mail comes in about NASA's plan to bomb our celestial sister on October 9. The missile is already on the way there.

The idea is, obstensibly, to find out if any water vapor or ice is revealed in the cloud of debris, which might provide supplies for a manned moonbase.

My heart is struck by this atrocity.

Lara Gardner's blog on Wordpress offers the details and cogent perspectives. There are mainstream and not-so-mainstream media articles on the web, also protests and global meditations around this mission.

Lara writes in her blog:

Historically, the purpose of exploration has always been the exploitation of resources and the colonization of territory without regard for ecosystems or indigenous peoples, and clearly the Moon is the next territory coveted by imperialists...

This so-called “NASA experiment” is a hostile act of aggression and a violent intrusion upon our closest and dearest celestial neighbor. Does any love song or poem or fairy tale worth its salt not mention the Moon? Who can take a walk in the Moonlight with a lover and not feel the romance to your very soul? At night, when the Moon rules, we sleep, and we can visit the Moon in our sleep with ease. The Moon is our night light, our blanket, our grandmother, our mother—it is woman, child, domestic life, tides, bodies of water, liquids, circulation, comfort, nurturing, paintings by Remedios Varo, stories by Jules Verne, and so much more.

My nature as a Cancer is to protect those I love. The Moon, goddess of the oceans, the tides and cycles that influence us so deeply on Earth, also rules my birth sign. Last night I had a dream of a gaping hole near the south pole of what I thought was Jupiter. Now I realize it was the Moon. She was wounded, as Jupiter was this summer by a meteor impact.

The cosmos is violent. Creative forces that shape worlds and stars and galaxies are necessarily destructive. Is it appropriate for us, as a species, to destroy in order to meet our perceived needs? Or is it our path to take responsibility for preserving the natural environment that gifts us so abundantly?

There's a call for world prayer to stop the proposed bombing of the Moon through Gaiafield Wisdom Council.

They write:

Today, September 4, is the date for a World Prayer Circle being called by Shantimayi, an American spiritual teacher in an Indian yogic tradition, and Rose Pere, a Maori elder, to offer prayers in protection of the Moon. Apart from arguably being in violation of the UN Outer Space Treaty (which requires the Moon and other celestial bodies to be used by all countries only for peaceful purposes) the bombing is also, of course, an affront to our emotional and spiritual connections with the moon, celebrated in nearly all cultures and religions throughout human history as a symbol of maternal generosity, love, and mystery. Please join us as we unite with many others around the world to offer gratitude and protection to the moon.

If you feel to, please pass this on and offer your continual prayers for her wellbeing. Thank you for your participation and for caring.

Om Shanti

Scenes of Summer

Reflections

Endings are always new beginnings. As another season draws to a close, my heart overflows with gratitude for the sights and sounds, the range of emotion and sensory perceptions, the sheer bliss of engaging with life, love and the sanctity of being this summer.

The eclipses in July and August signaled a big new beginning. So big, in fact, it hasn't had a chance yet to root. The Moon waxes to full this Friday in a culmination that's less about completion and more about process and integration. More about that in my ezine this week.

I've had the honor of traveling throughout the western United States this summer, visiting in new and favorite places in Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and California. What a ride.

The adventure began with the Return of the Ancestors, a global gathering of cultures and generations in northern Arizona in April. Then came immersion with the Sayaka Inka, spiritual emissaries from Peru who dance and sing and pray their way into the hearts of all who cross their path.

Our Core Shamanism Weekend on the Full Moon in June was another high point. An amazing group of masterful beings gathered in Denver to learn and grow as we played in the quantum field. All of that was, apparently, a preparation for attending the Kachina Dances on Hopi Second Mesa on the Summer Solstice. I can't imagine a more precious birthday gift for my Cancerian soul. Hovering on the edge of the mesa, lulled by the rhythmic dances, the drum and the chant, I'm transported deep within the cosmos, to a place of peace words can't describe.

In July, we celebrated the Lunar Eclipse with a creekside ceremony filled with nuance and synchronicty in Aspen, Colorado. For the July 22 Solar Eclipse, I opted for private ritual near the ancestral home of the Sinagua in Arizona. After that, a tour of natural building sites led through parts of Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona.

Our August 5 Lunar Eclipse ceremony in Sedona erupted into a moment of nostalgia with a spontaneous chorus of "Age of Aquarius," led by Sedona goddess Jewels who, of course, knew all the words. Night sky watching for meteor showers capped off the August celestial celebration.

The journey continues. Now the Moon is growing full again, another cycle coming to an end. It's hurricane season for many, and wildfires are raging on the West Coast. The changes are accelerating, to be sure. We can resist the flow, or attune to it and expand in consciousness as we journey through this momentous time.

In my book, Cosmic Time, I write about embracing all that's precious to us. What will we preserve, protect and savor as we move through the 2012 Gateway? This summer I've been privileged to see, hear, taste, smell and touch the Earth, mother goddess, in new and exciting ways. The laughter of children rings in my heart. A mountain breeze whispers through forests of aspen and pine. I drink in the morning mist, my toes oozing in briny sand as I walk along a windswept beach. The hot, musty vapors of earthen healing caves soothe my body and soul. I carry new respect for the skunk and his medicine. The birds call my name. Fire lights my way. I delight in chill ocean air.

It's all vibrant, juicy and sacred. I want to always to feel this alive, to relish the world around me every moment of every day.

A message that came again and again in my travels was an important one. It's about the waters of the Earth, how they connect and unify us, sustain life, and offer the possibility of deep healing. The waves and tides teach us about natural cycles, the ebb and flow of life. We'll explore these themes in coming weeks and months, tapping into the wisdom of the Earth to find out what she needs, and what she offers. There were many familiar messages, expressing in myriad ways, reminders about taking care of ourselves, the Earth and each other. The waxing Moon invites us to get back to basics, to be fully present in each moment, to walk mindfully, in loving service.

We're beginning a new project this fall. Actually, it's a continuation of Cosmic Time in a new form. More about that to come. For now, a pause. Meditation, integration and gratitude. Honoring the change of seasons. Aho.

Fire in the Sky

The winds of change have swept away eons of debris through the July-August triple-eclipse portal. What's next?

From the creative womb of Cancer, the Lunar Eclipse and Total Solar Eclipse in July infused us with a fresh new stream of Aquarian energy at last week's Lunar Eclipse. Galactic Great Mother is birthing a new consciousness, new ways of being on Earth. We are delivered into the arms of divine, universal love... agape.

Under the guidance of the triple conjunction of Jupiter, Neptune and Chiron, we're healing the wounds of division, remembering unity, expanding in love. We're supported, nurtured, free to make different choices, creating a new paradigm on Earth.

The 2012 transition is rocky, yet exhilarating, as humanity awakens to spiritual ideals and evolution accelerates. In my book, Cosmic Time, we focus on the potentials and possibilities created through this galactic portal.

Right now, a celebration is happening overhead with the annual Perseids Meteor Showers, a torrent of falling stars expected to peak very early Wednesday morning, August 12. Watch the skies tonight for the best show.

By-products of Comet Swift-Tuttle, the Perseids meteor display is a favorite astronomical summertime event. Meteors streaking through the sky seem to me like a cosmic party. I get all bubbly and giddy at the sight of the shooting stars. This year the Perseids are glistening reminders of how far we've come, individually and as a species. We're poised to take a quantum leap in consciousness, and the Universe is celebrating with us.

Savor the moment. The astro alignments this year and next are a pressure cooker designed to bring about needed changes as consciousness is shifted on planet Earth. It's a spiritual thing, actualized as this physical dimension is shaken to the core.

As with any birth, many physical changes are happening on the planet. Last week several earthquakes centered in the Gulf of Calfornia shook southern Calfornia and parts of Mexico. Yesterday, major earthquakes struck in Japan and Myanmar with tsunami warnings issued. Meanwhile, typhoon-related landslides caused sweeping damage in Taiwan and China.

What's happening in the heavens is a mixed bag, manifesting as extreme volatility on Earth. Uranus and Saturn are at opposition and both square to Pluto, creating a tense T-square that will continue through next year. In 2010, this T-square will become a Grand Cross in cardinal signs as planets move in and out of a fourth position. We'll experience peak intensity with this alignment around the time of the June Solstice next year. Another eclipse series comes along in June and July, triggering the Grand Cross. In initiating, cardinal signs, these alignments signal rapid, sudden changes that will reshape reality as we know it. This transformation has been prophesied since ancient times and is connected to 2012 and the end of the Mayan calendar.

How we experience the transition has everything to do with our consciousness. If we learn to flow with the energies, we'll have the ride of our lives. If we resist and cling to the past, we'll have a different experience.

Within the 2012 transition, 2009 is a pivotal year for cleaning house on all levels - spiritually, emotionally, mentally and physically. It’s time to wake up and get real. Understand your values. Pare down to what's essential. Deepen your spiritual practice. Live your purpose. Create with intent. And flow with constant change.

My work with individuals in my Astro-Shamanism practice helps you align with the celestial energies according to your incarnational blueprint, understanding the intent of the soul and natural timing within your evolutionary journey. This work is described on my web site, www.StarPriestess.com. Please be in touch if you'd like to schedule a personal session for yourself or someone you love. Aquarian Light

OK, that rocked. The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse last night capped off a triple eclipse series this summer. We're wiser, and wilder, with this experience.

A small group got together in Sedona to usher in the Aquarian vibes. There were many celebrations last night, and people sitting quietly, moonbathing.

However you chose to be with this alignment, may it shower you with insight and blessings. What an amazing journey we're on together through the 2012 Gateway into the next world age.

Namaste.

Om Guru

You don't need to be astrologically savvy to know that something extraordinary is happening this summer.

It's wild in the heavens and on Earth.

A series of three eclipses comes to completion this week with an electrifying Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius on Wednesday night, during the Sabbat of Lammas.

Jupiter got blasted by a comet just days before the New Moon Solar Eclipse on July 21/22. A gaping wound is visible near the gas giant's south pole.

Right now Jupiter is aligned with Neptune and Chiron in a historic triple conjunction designed to guide us through these volatile times. Meanwhile, Uranus, Saturn and Pluto are dancing in a T-square formation that signals sudden, deep and lasting transformation in our personal lives and outer world.

It's definitely all related.

Intrigued by the photographs of post-impact Jupiter since they first started surfacing on the Internet, I've been sitting with the meaning of the obvious synchronicity in the timing.

Aside from Jupiter's astrological correspondences with wealth, fame and fortune, the gas giant has a very spiritual meaning in astrology. He is the teacher, the guru, one who transmits the knowledge and wisdom of a higher power. On our planet, the term "guru" has come to describe a spiritual teacher.

The July 21/22 Solar Eclipse was visible in many parts of Asia, and the path of totality cut directly through India, the Motherland of spiritual teachings on Earth. Hinduism, the heart of Buddhism, is an empowering source of wisdom for our times. The Vedas predict the timing of vast cosmic cycles and prescribe spiritual practices to help us align with the flow of destructive/creative energies expressed in the dance of Shiva and Shakti.

It is from India that the practice developed of worshipping teachers known as gurus. Today, this tradition is transforming for many of us into a spiritual, devotional practice honoring the god/goddess in all things.

In astrology, Neptune represents our spirituality. Chiron is the wounded healer. How profound that Jupiter sustained this wound as the Sun, Earth and Moon aligned to create the longest Total Solar Eclipse this century. The guru has been scarred. His atmosphere, or aura, is already transforming as a result.

Is it possible that it's time to release our attachment to authority outside ourselves and honor the Inner Guru? Is it time to recognize ourselves, and each other, as divine creator beings? Perhaps the god/goddess resides within, and we are free to allow divinity to shine through us, to dance in delight with the universal flow of creation.

Namaste.

Love Divine

There is a point beyond time and space where creation begins. A place of complete stillness, peace, serenity. Love. On the energy of today's Total Solar Eclipse, go there.

A Solar Eclipse occurs when the Moon passes directly between the Sun and the Earth, blocking the Sun’s light from the Earth. In a Total Solar Eclipse, the sky appears to darken. Moments of darkness during the day call our attention to the inner realms, the Void, womb of creation. This is a powerful new beginning. Eclipses clear out the debris in our lives and bring us into alignment with the cosmos.

In Cancer, this New Moon Solar Eclipse drives us deep within to explore the roots of our feelings. This is an opportunity to break through longstanding emotional patterns that block the fullest manifestation of our Divine Essence. Cancer rules the 4th house, which has to do with homes and nurturing. So many are being displaced from their homes these days. We open to the realization that our physical home is merely one representation of the Spirit that sustains us. Great Mother, the Earth, provides in myriad ways.

While the July 21/22 New Moon Total Solar Eclipse will be visible in Asia and the South Pacific, the effects will be felt worldwide. In general, the path of an eclipse (where it’s visible) will be the geographical areas where the most widespread and sudden changes will take place. Where the eclipse falls astrologically in your chart will determine the areas in your life that will be most affected by this celestial house cleaning.

The July 21/22 Total Solar Eclipse will be visible in parts of India, Nepal, China and the Pacific Ocean. A partial eclipse will be visible in a broader path covering most of southeast Asia and northeastern Oceania. The path of totality cuts through the homelands of some of the most ancient and relevant spiritual teachings on Earth, including Hinduism, the Vedas, Taosim, and the I Ching. Tibetan Buddhism is rooted in Hinduism. Watch for the essence of these traditions to enter mainstream conscious awareness.

In July and August, there are three eclipses – two in Capricorn/Cancer and another in Aquarius/Leo. This series is designed to open the heart as we refine our values and priorities in alignment with the Aquarian ideals of humanitarianism and service.

The only total eclipse of the year happens in Cancer, the sign that most fully embodies the energy of Divine Mother, and continues as the Sun enters Leo. This will be a moment of intense transformation for humanity, an invitation to open to the embrace of the cosmos at this critical time in Earth’s history.

The New Moon on July 22 is the second New Moon in the sign of Cancer this year. In the last degree of Cancer, it's time to wrap up the old and begin the new. Eclipses happen in 6-month and 19-year cycles. What's coming to completion in your life within these time frames? What are you beginning that's new? Eclipses break up energy patterns, freeing us to create anew.

The eclipse period - as the Moon passes over the face of the Sun - lasts several hours. The moment of the New Moon - when the Sun and Moon meet exactly - is the time of greatest eclipse: 7:35 PM Pacific July 21; 10:35 PM Eastern July 21; 2:35 AM GMT July 22.

You can convert to your time zone here:

Ritual is appropriate throughout this period. Eclipses are points of balance and illumination. In Buddhist tradition, they are holy days reserved for prayer, reflection and meditation on behalf of the collective. Our thoughts are amplified exponentially through these portals created by the alignment of Sun, Earth and Moon. With the energy of the Solar Eclipse, we're planting the seeds of something new that will culminate over the next six months and 19 years. Create with intent.

Eclipses aren't the only astrological news this summer. There's also a triple conjunction of Jupiter, Neptune and Chiron and explosive alignments of Uranus, Saturn and Pluto. All of this happens as we make our way through the 2012 Gateway, the time when our Sun aligns with the Galactic Equator. We explore the astrological context of the eclipses in my book, Cosmic Time, and in my 2009-2012 Astro Preview. You'll receive a complimentary copy of the preview report when you order the book or make a donation to support my ezine and blog updates. Click here for details.

Freedom

For me, letting go means being free.

This year's six eclipses line up significantly with my astrological blueprint, and all I can do with this much transformational energy is to let it do its thing. The results so far have been amazing.

I'm traveling this summer in the western United States, in parts of North America steeped in the vibrations of freedom and adventure. We had a profound Full Moon ceremony on Monday night on the banks of a creek running through Aspen, Colorado, a small gathering filled with magic, synchronicity and light.

I'm hearing from others who are enjoying similar experiences of expansion and joy. Some are delving into the depths of uncharted emotions and emerging more clear, vibrant and alive. Surely this is a rebirth. Hearts are opening.

There are two more eclipses coming up this summer. The adventure continues with a Total Solar Eclipse on July 21/22, followed by a penumbral Lunar Eclipse on August 5/6. You can read more about these in my previous blog posts below, and in my ezine, Cosmic Time.

Eclipses break up long-standing energy patterns. Last week's Lunar Eclipse and the upcoming Solar Eclipse fall in my birth sign of Cancer, and I'm having the time of my life, shedding old skin, allowing outdated beliefs to shatter, opening to the new, the wondrous, the divine. Something new is emerging... soon, not just yet.

How are you experiencing these energies? Eclipses happen in 6-month and 19-year cycles. What's coming to completion, and beginning, in your life in these time frames? How are you feeling physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually? My work with individuals helps you navigate the volatile eclipse season, understand how the planetary alignments and transits affect you personally, and make the most of the energies. The effects are amplified during these times of peak intensity. Please be in touch if you'd like to schedule a session.

This summer is intense, to say the least. Old paradigms are crumbling around and within us. How we choose to respond will have everything to do with what we'll experience through this transition. Attempting to hold on out of fear, insecurity and anger will lead a certain direction. I'm convinced that letting go, learning to trust and spreading our wings will carry us further, and higher, than we ever dreamed possible.

Enjoy the journey.

Galactic Moon

There's more to Monday night's Full Moon Lunar Eclipse than meets the eye.

As the opening act in a three-part eclipse series in July and August, the July 6/7 Lunar Eclipse will impact the Earth, humanity and dimensions beyond. The Full Moon rising on Monday night will be partially eclipsed in the middle of the night. This is a shallow penumbral lunar eclipse visible in parts of Australia, New Zealand, Antarctica, Indonesia, and South and Central America.

The eclipse period lasts from 8:32 AM GMT through 10:44 AM GMT on July 7. The Moon crests to full at 9:21 AM GMT. To find out the timing in your area, click on the time zone calculator link below. For many of our readers, the eclipse happens overnight from July 6 to 7, so the most appropriate time for ceremony is Monday night, July 6.

I can't stress enough the importance of meditation or ritual in observance of this important celestial event. While this won't be the most engaging visual display, the energetic significance is immeasurable.

When I sat in meditation last week to prepare for writing my previous post about the upcoming eclipses, I heard repeatedly that this eclipse series is somehow "galactic." My first thought about this was that our Sun is aligned with the Great Star Sirius, and this Sun-Sirius conjunction in Cancer will oppose the Full Moon in Capricorn at the July 6/7 lunar eclipse. Although the Sun-Moon alignment with Sirius has sweeping metaphysical significance and is a guiding celestial presence for us on Earth, this didn't fully explain the word I kept receiving... "galactic." It wasn't until this past weekend that the message became clear, thanks to the divine intelligence of whatever or whoever communicates with us through crop formations.

A new article on the Crop Circle Connector web site illuminates the galactic connection through the mysterious language of crop formations. The article links several recent crop circles that depict the eclipse series in various ways, providing not only a teaching about eclipses but also a cosmic heads-up about a possible solar flare that would impact Earth's electromagnetic field. There's also a link to a recent glyph depicting a bird with codes flowing from its wingtips. The image is stunning.

From these symbols and the theories posted about their meanings, the most important points I can decipher are:

1) Just before the July 6/7 Lunar Eclipse, the Moon is crossing the plane of the Milky Way Galaxy, just as our Sun does each December.

This means the Moon is carrying galactic codes and information as it enters into an eclipse alignment with the Sun. The alignment of the Sun and Moon with the great star Sirius during the eclipse creates an energetic portal that will bring massive transformation on personal, planetary and interdimensional levels, with galactic energies assimilating in the Earth plane.

2) The Earth's electromagnetic field, which protects life on our planet from radiation in space, is changing in a big way. The glyphs seem to contain warnings about solar radiation on July 7 that will affect Earth's electromagnetic field.

There are plenty of other crop formations this summer that are related to this series. You can view the symbols and read articles, interpretations and other comments on the Crop Circle Connector web site. Links to the ones I'm finding especially relevant are posted below.

I don't pretend to understand the many meanings and messages encoded in these mysterious glyphs, and I don't automatically believe how various people interpret them. I see the crop formations as messages from a divine intelligence assisting us on our journey of transformation through the 2012 Gateway. At this point in our evolution, humans can conjecture about their meanings, but it doesn't appear that any one individual or group has cracked the many codes they contain. I've found it's most effective to commune with the symbols directly and allow their energies to seep into the subconscious so we may receive each transmission as it is intended.

What's most relevant now is the exceptional opportunity the current planetary alignments provide for us to connect with the cosmos in a rare and sacred way, allowing higher frequencies of divine love to embed in the Earth plane through us. The Full Moon alignment is at 15 degrees of Capricorn/Cancer. In astrology, the middle degrees of a sign can manifest as the highest expression of a sign's potential. In Capricorn/Cancer, we have the sacred marriage of the Cosmic Father and Mother, the union of Heaven and Earth.

We'll have an eclipse ceremony here in the mountains near Aspen, Colorado, and invite you to join from your location during the hours of the eclipse, or just before, as the Full Moon rises on Monday night. A suggested focus for meditation and ritual at this eclipse would be to open to the vast and mysterious destructive/creative energies at the heart of our galaxy. At the same time, connect with the Sun, the Moon, the Earth and the waters of this precious planet - the streams and rivers, the lakes and seas. Allow the natural energies to bathe us in peace as we make our way through the volatile times ahead.

Click here to read my previous blog post for more information about the planetary alignments this summer, including ideas on how to navigate the eclipse energies.

Over the years, crop formations have alerted us in advance to major celestial events, including the appearance of the Holmes Comet, which burst onto the scene as a bright object in the night sky in October 2007. I highlight the appearance of the "Bluestar," as well as this summer's eclipse series, in my book Cosmic Time and my 2009-2012 Astro Preview.

Here's the Crop Circle Connector article relating a series of recent glyphs that refer to the eclipses and a specific connection between the July 6/7 Lunar Eclipse and an impending electromagnetic disturbance that could greatly affect the Earth: http://www.cropcircleconnector.com/2009/waylandsmithy/articles.html

Read the comments about the recent "jellyfish" glyph and the Earth's electromagnetic field, plus similarities between the jellyfish and the human heart and the mythological symbolism of the jellyfish or "medusa": http://www.cropcircleconnector.com/2009/knolldown/comments.html

Crop formation reported June 27, 2009: A bird with codes flowing from the wingtips. Is it a swallow, or a phoenix ascending into a new form or dimension? Read the comments for ideas about this crop formation's connection with the Mayan calendar and possible electromagnetic disturbances on Earth:
